Crisis Christmas 2008 – Update

Monday, November 24th, 2008

Thank you to all for interest in the project this year.

We now have a volunteer databse of over 100 people for this project. With this fantastic response, we are aiming to guage availability around 1 week in advance on a step by step basis to accommodate the projects fluid work process. We will be contacting volunteers currently on the project database by email and would appreciate if you could respond promptly. For the present time we are not including new volunteers for this project. We would however encourage you to join up on the AFHUK website. http://afhuk.org/?page_id=23

If you have any imaginative ideas on materials – preferably re-use or recycle, please send them through to info@afhuk.org and title them CC2008 materials. Please keep in touch with the project through the AFHUK website.

Crisis Christmas 2008

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

The initial call for volunteers meeting took place at Crisis this week. This year we have had an unprecedented number of volunteers – thank you to all those who attended. A special thank you to Mr Fedex who stepped in with a laptop at the last minute to hook up the presentation – much appreciated. We are now working to allocate volunteers to Teams and thank you for your patience. A copy of the presentation is attached below. Our key themes this year are ‘placemaking’ and waste harvesting. We are collaborating with Architecture Sans Frontieres UK with the aim of integrating reused materials into the centres.

Call for Volunteers – Crisis Christmas 2008

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Project Description

Architecture for Humanity UK (AfHUK) is part of the worldwide charitable organisation that seeks architectural solutions to humanitarian problems. Each Christmas it helps to improve conditions for homeless people and those living in hostels by teaming up with Crisis, the national charity dedicated to helping homeless people. Together the two organisations transform disused buildings into welcoming centres for the Crisis Christmas (CC) programme which opens for one week over the Christmas period. AfHUK uses innovative architecture and good design to create warm, aspirational, functioning spaces with the intention of providing homeless people a more comfortable and enjoyable Christmas.
