Crisis Christmas 2008

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

A Massive Thank You to the AfH Volunteers on the Crisis Christmas Project.
Our volunteers this year were fantastic, showing inventive design solutions complemented with truly inspired thinking.

We worked with the homeless charity Crisis helping to create warm and welcoming places in for Londons’ homeless community over the Christmas period. For information on Crisis, please look at their website on: www.crisis.org.uk

Watch out on the AFHUK website in the New Year where we will be showing images and words for the project.

Crisis would really appreciate all hands in helping with the set-down – this is a great introduction to volunteering and an opportunity to see the reality of life behind design.

Should you be interested in helping with the set-down of the project, starting from 30th December 2008, please contact kamreseau@aol.com for further details.

Fareshare nears completion

Friday, December 5th, 2008

The architecture of Fareshare has taken shape, and the building is all but finished apart from some final fit out and furniture.

The building is designed to be a haven from the industrial and down at heal surroundings.  Built within a larger warehouse, it is a thermally and acoustically sealed box, with a deliberately harder outer shell and a softer/ light inner core. Bringing natural daylight into the inner rooms was the driver for the sloping roofs and glazed inner walls. The form, entrance ramp and cladding are all in response to very specific design issues, but are pulled together in a way that creates a unique installation. More info can be found on the project pages and we will have better photos soon…
