Afrikids Eco Village
The child-rights charity Afrikids, which operates 16 projects in the impoverished Upper East Region of Ghana, commissioned AfH UK to design the Blue Sky Lodge in the north part of Ghana to promote responsible tourism and generate financial, social and environmental returns. The 23-acre resort, designed to complement local vernacular architecture, is aimed at both domestic and foreign tourists. It is hoped the lodge will generate a profit of £180,000 a year, one third of the total annual budget Afrikids Ghana needs to run independently and help to alleviate child poverty and child rights abuses across the Upper Eastern Region.
