Maidstone Christian Care

Maidstone Christian Care provide a service of gathering and distributing food to homeless centres and third world countries. They had very small building used for housing the food prior to it being sent out which was also used for the packaging and sorting. The facility is really too small for the operation they undertake.

They also needed more accommodation for their centre workers who currently work in cramped conditions. MCC required a larger building and asked Crash to help in the provision of a portacabin. Crash felt that this would not be appropriate based on many factors, not least of which is the accessibility to the site and the existing site levels. A portacabin building would also not meet the needs or requirements of a modern, permanent, facility, which is what they required.

AFHUK where approached by CRASH to come up with design and help implement the scheme. Using its network of volunteers AFHUK where able to arrange a feasibility study by Brighton based Architects CDA, who then followed the project through to completion in September 2007.

CDA are now continueing their relationship with MCC in improving other areas of the centre. www.cda-group.co.uk
